Commuters surprised for Thank You Day 2023 finale by Tony Christie, Vicky McClure and Our Dementia Choir

The UK celebrated Thank You Day 2023 with a nationwide sing-a-long of Thank You for Being a Friend. The event concluded with a surprise live performance at St Pancras by Tony Christie, Vicky McClure, and Our Dementia Choir.

Image shows Singer Tony Christie reading song lyrics in a recording studio with a man standing beside him. To the left of the image is a green textbox that reads 'It is estimated that one in 10 Brits participated in Thank You Day, bringing families, neighbours, and friends together to foster stronger connections and kinder communities.'

Our performance at St Pancras International captivated commuters and workers, who not only enjoyed the show but also joined in singing the anthem of Thank You Day 2023. Tony Christie, who revealed his dementia diagnosis earlier this year, rehearsed the song with Our Dementia Choir in Mansfield and met its incredible members and their caregivers in May. Vicky McClure, the BAFTA-winning actor and Chair of Our Dementia Choir, emphasised the profound impact music has on people living with dementia, as evidenced by the joy on the faces of the choir members, Tony Christie, and everyone present. McClure also highlighted the transformative and healing power of music, which inspired her to start Our Dementia Choir.

Tony Christie has been actively involved in the Thank You Day 2023 campaign on behalf of Music for Dementia and recently released a version of Thank You for Being a Friend featuring Sting and Nile Rodgers. He said: “This has been an amazing end to a whirlwind Thank You Day campaign and I’m so grateful that Music for Dementia invited me to be central to it. Performing, staying positive and trying not to let dementia affect my life really lifts me, so taking part has been a privilege and a blessing, not just for me but for my whole family.”
