Experience and participate in live music making

Live music is delivered by a variety of different individuals and organisations in care settings and community-based venues across the UK.

Some specialise in training care staff to deliver music-based interventions themselves; some organisations bring professionally qualified musicians into care settings to perform and engage with residents. Others bring live music sessions which range in their degree of interactivity from performances, to tea dances, to participatory singing.

Whatever a care setting chooses to do, there is a vast array of amazing charities, organisations and music groups available to help with this. Ask your care home what live music they provide and use our Musical Map to find out what services are available to you locally.

During COVID-19

Organisations providing live musical activities have managed to adjust to social distancing and isolation restrictions to bring a range of pre-recorded and live sessions via video link, social media and other digital means as well as providing garden/front door performances for the enjoyment of care home residents and people in their homes.

You can find out more about what’s on via the Musical Map [link] or visit websites such as Orchestras Live, Music in Hospitals & Care, Live Music Now at Home or Singing for the Brain directly for more information.
