Urbanista Magazine: Acclaimed composer John McHugh and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra bring ‘Hidden Voice’ to The Epstein Theatre on 9th May 2019. The performance captures the stories of people living with dementia and uses the rhythms in their speech to create a beautiful and emotional musical experience. consequently, raising awareness of the condition.
McHugh explains: “The piece ‘gives a voice’ to people living with dementia by setting their speech patterns to music.
“Live musicians, film and audio takes the audience into the thoughts of the people on screen.
“There is something about setting speech patterns to music that raises the everyday speech to a poetic and profound level. The effect is incredibly emotional.”
