Calling all choirs - join in the Thank You Day singalong
Singing legend Tony Christie has recorded Thank You For Being A Friend as the Thank You Day anthem. Now we are calling on Britain’s choirs to get involved in what could be the nation’s biggest ever singalong.
Tony Christie revealed in January he has been diagnosed with dementia and is working now with Music for Dementia to show everyone how music can be a powerful tool to live well with the condition. Here’s how your choir can get involved in Thank You Day on 2 July.
1. Get the words and music for your choir: A 2-part choir arrangement of Thank You For Being a Friend will be available FREE on the website from 1 June (with thanks to Hal Leonard music publishers).
2. Share your version on social media: Once you’ve nailed the song, film the choir singing it and upload to social media on 2 July with the hashtag #thankyouday
3. Singing in the supermarket: This year, Asda have partnered with Thank You Day. Stores around the country will be looking for ways to get involved. Contact your local Asda and ask their Community Champion if your choir could sing for half an or hour so, to welcome shoppers.
4. Care Home Open Week – Thank You Day is right at the end of Care Home Open Week, organised by Championing Social Care, another Thank You Day partner. Contact a local care home to see if they would like a choir performance on Thank You Day as the centrepiece of their musical celebrations.
5. Dementia Choirs – Music for Dementia is offering a special Thank You Day pack to any dementia choirs that want to take part. This will include the lyrics and music for Thank You For Being A Friend, information about how to use music to live well with dementia - and kazoos. If you run a dementia choir, click here to sign up for your free pack.
