Introducing the Music Made Easy challenge
Last year Music for Dementia surveyed 1,000 family carers of people living with dementia. We found a deep digital divide between old and young.
Only 3 in 10 older family carers are able to stream music with their loved ones
Just 35% of family carers over 65 feel very confident with tech.
Only 30% of spouses of people living with dementia are using playlists.
Age UK research paints a similar picture: 6 in 10 internet users aged 65 or over never
use the internet to stream music or videos.
Over-65s are estimated to make up 54% of household spending in the UK (ILC-UK 2018) - that’s around £319 billion each year. Older people and industry are missing out.
Calling all designers, creatives, innovators and entrepreneurs in UK music and tech!
Music for Dementia has redesigned its m4dRADIO platform to make it easier to use. Now we are making all our design insights public. We hope to start a conversation within industry about designing products and services everyone can use, regardless of age or ability. For example:
QUESTION: Can the innovation emerging in product design for the children’s market be harnessed for older people?
QUESTION: Could streaming companies create Music Made Easy versions of their home pages for people who value simplicity over novelty, similar to high-contrast versions many websites have for people with visual impairments?
QUESTION: How should new products and services be marketed as they emerge, so older audiences know about them?
