In 2021/22 we distributed a total of £610,599 through the Paul & Nick Harvey Fund.

In 2020, a video of Paul Harvey playing the piano went viral on social media, shared by his son Nick. Paul is an exceptional musician, a former music teacher and a composer, who lives with dementia. The video showed Paul composing his original work , ‘Four Notes.‘ Such was the power of the film that the BBC Philharmonic asked to record the tune and Paul and Nick appeared on BBC Breakfast along with Music for Dementia.

Their beautiful story was seen by Sir Tom and Lady Marion Hunter, of the Hunter Foundation and in November 2020 Sir Tom Hunter announced live on air that the Hunter Foundation was donating £500k to the campaign.

This donation allowed us to establish the Paul & Nick Harvey Fund, to fund music and dementia organisations around the UK. The National Academy for Social Prescribing (NASP) provided an additional £100,000, Paul and Nick generously donated the proceeds from Four Notes and we also received some donations from members of the public.

In total, we received more than 170 applications to the fund and grants were issued to all the organisations below, bringing the power of music to tens of thousands of people living with dementia, their families and carers.

And the impact of Paul and Nick Harvey lives on. Inspired by the success of the fund, the Utley Foundation has committed £1m over three years to the Power of Music Fund, a mixed funding pot being convened by NASP. Due to be launched in autumn 2023 you can find out more on the NASP website.
